We're Back!

I took a longer break from the blog than I wanted to. I had planned to use Tuesday's nap time to edit some pictures and write but we came back from the gym to no power! I didn't realize it until I laid Auggie down for his overdue nap. Auggie likes for me to turn on his fan so he can sign "fan" and then go to sleep "listening" to his music and watching his 2-slide safari slide show... but there nothing happened when I turned the fan on! They didn't get the power back on until 6:30 pm! It didn't seem like it was an unexpected maintenance so I was little annoyed there was no notice.

The end of our Spring Break was great! I got to see my neighbor from La Porte get married. It was a beautiful wedding right off of Lake Lyndon B. Johnson. The weather was beautiful! And of course, it was great to see her and my neighbors from home on such a special occasion!

We also got to spend some time with Jessica, Rick and Ben. We were so thankful we were able to stay with them for the weekend. We spent that Saturday morning driving around the Hill Country and looking for bluebonnets so we could take pictures. Auggie didn't sleep too well while we were out so our days didn't start out too well... they were very sluggish (at least on my end).

Tim had a certification class for work that Monday through Thursday so I drove down to La Porte to spend some time with my family. I almost missed Jamie, Zach, Nathan and Zoe but luckily, we made it in time. We had a 20 minute overlap! That gave us just enough time to take pictures with Grandma and Grandpa Hoffman! I had thought we were going to miss the great photo op with the Great Grandparents and all of their great grandchildren in our family.

Jamie, Zach and family headed back to Krum later than expected (but thank you for staying!!) and our week of not sleeping well began. I was really hoping since Auggie was in a room by himself, he'd sleep better, but man, I was wrong! One of the nights he was up from 1-4 am. I even took him on a car ride at 3 to get him asleep. As I was getting him out, I dropped my phone, his blanket and pacifier and he was up again. Luckily, he was back to sleep when I laid him back down inside. That's the only reason why I'm not looking forward to Easter weekend.... he'll be sleeping in his pack-n-play again.

My Uncle Steve got to meet Auggie for the first time

Well, enough of our boring lives, huh? You're here to read about Auggie!

He's eating a little bit more. Well, it's more like snacking but it is progress! He likes to walk around and eat. Really, the only thing he likes to do in his booster seat is sit in it to watch me cook or wash dishes.

Auggie has learned a few more signs! He's added "apple," "play," "dance," "water," and "frog" to his list! He's even gotten very forceful when he signs "car." Every time he sees a car, he has to sign it... even if it's a truck or a van. While we were at Lake LBJ, he kept signing cars when he saw the boats on the lake. Sometimes he signed water and car together. Such a smart boy, huh?

He's getting a little more vocal, too. No full words yet but he has different noises for different words. His speech therapist is really happy with his progression.

Auggie is also into a big boy car seat! He's been front facing since Saturday and loves watching the vehicles and the sky. We were going to wait until he was closer to 2 years old but Jessica and Rick gave us Ben's old car seat. Thanks!!

and onto our pictures from the bluebonnets!
a truck drove by so he was signing for us

Sadly, the pollen was really high so Auggie was sneezing quite a bit

Spring Break

Auggie is getting in a lot of play time since its Spring Break. I've been babysitting a 20 month old girl this week. They get along great- I think its because of their opposite personalities. Auggie's very independent and she's, well, not. Maybe its the age difference? Maybe not. I do know he has enjoyed having other kids around. He's even started paying more attention to Jonathan... Just in time for him to move away.  Today was the last day I babysat Jonathan. We played on a blanket while Auggie brought toys to entertain all of us. It was cute. Thursday, he'll have another buddy to play with- Zane! Yep, that's right- I'll have 3 kids under 2 years old for a few hours. I'm not crazy... right??

Auggie enjoyed having the blanket laid out again

We discovered a new playground this week. Well, I knew it was there but didn't realize it was the perfect size for Auggie. Too bad it isn't more secluded so he'd actually play on it! He is so busy watching the birds, cars and trucks go by. We walked around the track this morning while he signed "bird" and "car" every time he saw them. There were a few other kids out this morning. Auggie was too busy with the birds and cars to play, though. One little girl (about 10 or so) asked if the thing on his head "helped his brain work." I kinda laughed at that one. I tried explaining it to her... I told her he was born without the holes in his ears so he couldn't hear as well as she or I could. So I told her the band helped him hear. As we left, she told me she hoped his ears got better. I'm not too sure if my explanation got through to her not. It was nice of her to say that though.

Since the update has taken me literally all day to write, I'll leave you with some videos from Facebook. We have a very busy week coming up- babysitting, wedding and a visit from Auggie's Great Grandparents! There won't be any updates next week... Sorry- we'll just be too busy and not around a computer enough to update! Have a great weekend!!

Will Auggie be a Foodie?

Oranges, grapes and apples can all be added to the list of foods Auggie has tried since we stopped going to occupational therapy. It's only been a week but he's shown more interest in food. I wish grapes weren't such a choking hazard because Auggie really liked the bite or two he had at Mainly Music. I've tried green grapes before... and of course, he's like his Daddy and liked the purple grapes!

Tuesday afternoon, I kept seeing Auggie chewing on his plastic balls. He even tried to take a bite out of a stress ball. I gave him a whole apple to see if that would soothe his need to chew. He walked around with it for awhile. I found pieces of apple everywhere! I'm not too sure how much he actually ate. Hopefully it'll get him to eat a little more. We'll see...

Auggie has been showing us where his nose is this week. I think its pretty much all thanks to Gramma (my mom), though.

Auggie didn't wake up until 10 this morning. We went to storytime at the library in Bryan after he woke up. I thought he was going to take a nap but I guess not. So with him running around the house, I'll leave you with some pictures!

Have a great weekend!

March is marching right on in!

It's already the third month of 2012! Slowwww down! I don't think it will- we have so much planned! I turn 25 in exactly a month! AHHH! Easter is coming up. That means we'll have at least 2 Easter egg hunts. Auggie's great grandparents will be in La Porte. We have a wedding to attend. I might be doing some family pictures. I'll be babysitting all of Spring Break. Busy busy busy!

Auggie has been busy busy busy too! He's starting to reach for door knobs when he wants to go outside. I am so glad we don't have the handle-type! Monday, he picked his nose for the first time.. and the second and the third. He pretty much stopped picking once I started laughing. Then he just kept his finger in his nose. It was pretty funny, though. He laughed with me a few times. That's a funny picture: Auggie with his finger in his nose and laughing.

That's another thing he's beginning to do more often- laugh with us. I love his little laugh. It has always reminded me of that person who laughs when s/he doesn't get the joke. Too funny!

I don't think I have talked about Auggie's climbing ability much lately. Last week he learned how to climb into our bed. The bed is pretty high but we have a support board (for the mattresses) that he can climb onto and then pull himself up. I really have to watch him now when he goes into our room. He likes to flop on the bed and lay out on our duvet. He also likes to play with the string of lanterns and sunflowers on our headboard. He can flop all he wants but the headboard is a no-go area. He's already broken off one of the lanterns.

Last Thursday was our last appointment for occupational therapy. In the two weeks we were at home (we only missed one appointment), Auggie started eating better. Well, not necessarily better, but he snacked more. He ate a bunch of goldfish, crackers, veggie chips/sticks and even ventured out to eat an orange. I told the therapist we'd come back if we had more of an issue. He likes to walk around and eat. I know I'm going to regret not making him sit down but I'm glad he's eating. We'll deal with sitting down later!

We celebrated Mommo's 79th birthday on Sunday in Giddings. It was nice seeing everyone there. We drove around after to let Auggie take his nap for a little bit. I can't wait to see all the wildflowers this year! They're going to be so pretty. I took a few pictures so I'll post some throughout the next week or so.
