Houston Children's Museum- Jan. 18

Just a little "plug" before we get to Auggie.....

This adorable little girl is Paxton! She is such a smart 2.5 year old. I met her mommy, Kristy, through the mom's group I joined here in College Station. Kristy and 8 friends (including me!) are running the "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" 5K March 23 to raise awareness and money for research of Neutropenia. In 2011, Paxton was diagnosed with neutropenia. Neutropenia (noo-troe-PEE-nee-uh) is an abnormally low count of neutrophils, a type of white blood cell that helps fight off infections, particularly those caused by bacteria and fungi. This diagnosis came after a long bout of unexplainable fevers, typical viruses and a few bacterial infections. Although they have a diagnosis of what caused Paxton to be sick, there are still a lot of "unknowns" they have to deal with. Paxton can't be around large crowds or sick people because she is at a very high risk of getting sick and not having enough white blood cells to fight it off. So this is where the 5K comes in... We're raising money to help the Ella Jewell Foundation (a nonprofit dedicated to neutropenia research) and the Long Race 4 Tate! The original goal was $500 but they met that goal quickly (I just signed up for it today;). So now they're aiming for $1,000! Tim spent 18 days in January out in Uvalde (south Texas) guiding so Auggie and I got to spend almost a full week in La Porte. We had a great time but it was really nice once Tim was home!

My mom and I had planned on taking auggie and Drake to the Houston Children's museum the Friday we were there but Drake ended up having a swollen ear drum so he wasn't able to go. He always misses out on the fun stuff! Poor guy! I know if he would've gone, my mom and I would've been split up the whole time because there is SO much to do! Auggie had a blast and we didn't even see half the museum.

They had a cool exhibit full of vintage pedal cars in the main hallway. They had some from the 1940s to the 1970s. There were a few that were fire truck themed and it looked like Auggie liked those the best. Too bad they don't make toys like they used to!

We eventually made our way into one of the exhibits- "How Does It Work?" There were all sorts of science themed activities- magnets with washers, periscopes and telescopes, building arcs with giant blocks, rolling golf balls on a mini put-put course and curved arc. And those are just a few they had upstairs! Auggie liked them all and had a hard time going on to each activity.

We went outside after the how it works exhibit to visit the "Eco Station". They had little chicks for kids to see and learn about a life cycle. They even had information on Purple Martins for their weekly native animal section. In the spring/summer time, that part would be fun because they had a little pond and plants growing. It was just green and brown because of the winter.

There was also a water exhibit in the courtyard- "Flow Works". I didn't think it would be open so I figured going outside would be ok... Don't know what I was thinking! It was January and the water exhibit was STILL running! BRRRR! Luckily it was a nice day and Auggie didn't get too wet. This one would also be fun during the summer time! Hopefully Groupon will have another sale on their tickets this spring/summer.

It was a little difficult getting auggie to go back inside but once we got to the toddler section upstairs, he changed his attitude. We spent most of our time in the "Tot Spot" the first time we went and he liked it this time around, too. Any room full of toys definitely gets Auggie's attention.

We would've stayed longer but nap time was looming over our heads. I know Auggie could've stayed the whole day if he chose to. Hopefully next time we'll be able to go with Drake!

Getting Up and Going!

Auggie has been a little mover lately! He is all about wanting to pull up on me or Tim or anyone/anything that will let him. He wants to get going but he doesn't know he can't. I feel bad for him sometimes because he wants to stand up but he usually doesn't hold onto anything so ends up falling. Luckily, he's only had a few close calls because someone is always there to catch him!

Auggie’s doing so good with all his milestones and everything. He was weighed twice last week- first time fully clothed, he was 16.01 pounds and then the second time naked, he was 15.8 pounds. So I guess, he’s between 15.5 and 16 pounds! Every scale is different so I’m sure we’ll never know exactly how much he weighs.

We had an appointment with Toni (Dietician) and Melinda (AI) on Tuesday and then we saw Mandy (Speech) on Wednesday.

His dietician appointments are getting more spread out now. Toni was very happy with how well he’s eating and how well he’s taken to eating solids. She said we could give him anything on our plate now that he no longer screams during meal time. We won’t see her again until late July/early August.

Melinda sees him every Monday over the summers. She’s with AI- Auditory something-or-other. I still can’t remember what that means. But she’s with the Brazos Valley Regional Day School Program for the Deaf.

Mandy sees him once a month, for now. She has really helped us with getting him to eat and she’ll start with helping how to get him to babble and talk properly when the time comes.

Last Thursday, Jessica, Rick & Ben came for a visit. We went to Adamson Lagoon just down the road from us. They have 4 slides (2 for little kids and 2 for the kids at heart), a lily pad run, a kiddy pool, a deep end and a semi-shallow end. It's a very nice pool and its only $6 to get in! It'll be a lot of fun for our other nieces and nephews when they come for a visit.

Mom, Lindsay and I hosted a "sprinkle" for Jamie & Zach in La Porte over the weekend. It was a great day to have people over! I hope Jamie and Zach enjoyed it!

One of the moms (Jen) I met through the Moms & Tots group on MeetUp.com makes paci clips, blankets, wet bags, slings and nursing covers. We were able to get a few paci clips for the Soothie brand pacifiers! YAY! That was one of the reasons why I didn't like those pacifiers was because nothing attaches to them! Jen's are really cute and come in all sorts of fabric choices! She has a Facebook Page called Ruby Dean Designs. She also made the "Woobie" in the picture above (the little blanket with the ribbon under the diaper cake).

Auggie has been sleeping longer and when we check on him in the morning, he usually has his butt in the air. I just love the picture below. His feet are crossed and he just looks so comfy!

Friday, I took Auggie back to his pediatrician for her to look at his rash. She walked in and even before she closed the door, she knew it was eczema! He's had some form of it since he was 3 months old and she just now told us what it was. We're a little peeved at that but she gave us a steroid cream to use twice a day. Today is the 6/7 time to use it and all those red spots are gone! I'm so glad its gone! I just hope it stays away.

Auggie's Loaner BAHA!

We met a lady through Facebook group and Yahoo! groups who was nice enough to lend us a BAHA for Auggie until we are able to get his own.

We can't thank Judy enough for sending it to us!

It made me so happy to see Auggie look at Tim when he spoke! I was surprised I didn't cry but man, was I happy! He enjoyed bouncing and bending his knees when he had the BAHA on. I just loved seeing that!

We also received some good news from the insurance... After almost 6.5 weeks after his hearing test, Auggie is approved for his own BAHA! Now all we need to do is schedule an appointment with the audiologist to order his BAHA. I can't wait. My mom is coming in town this week so hopefully she'll teach me how to use my sewing machine so I can start making his headbands.

We had a great time over Easter weekend. We were able to see some friends and all our family. It sure is tiring even though we got to spend a couple days in La Porte and in Giddings. I'm pretty sure Auggie enjoyed his first holiday with the families.... He better because there are plenty more coming up!

Somer, my neighbor growing up, has a daughter (Delaney) 3 weeks younger than Auggie. We were finally able to meet each other over the weekend!
